DESCRIPTION: Body length up to 9.5mm. A quite long-legged and slender looking Tachinid Fly with orange to yellow wing bases and calypters, long and sturdy abdominal bristles, bares eyes, a long receding face and a grey dusting on the humeri and jowls. Wing cell R4+5 is narrowly open apically and vein M is strongly bowed. BEHAVIOUR: Adults run over sunlit foliage with vibrating wings. The larvae are parasites of Tenthredinid Sawfly larva. DISTRIBUTION: A local species throughout Britian but rarely seen in great numbers. HABITAT: Best seen in and around woodland and clearings. PERIOD: On the wing from June until August.
